The book Ethical Essays has been published.

According to the Public Relations Office of the Qur’an and Hadith Research Institute, Ethical Essays is an effort by ethics researchers to explore the following questions:

  1. What ethical theory aligns with the culture of Shi‘ism?

  2. What is the difference between contemporary virtue ethics and that of ancient Greece?

  3. What roles does God play in ethics?

  4. What is the position of the ethics of love in Islamic ethics?

  5. What are the arguments for and against ethical egoism?

  6. What are the arguments and issues regarding ethical utilitarianism?

  7. What are the evidences and experimental support for ethical altruism?

This book is a collection of articles and essays by members of the Theoretical Ethics Group at the Qur’an and Hadith Research Institute, developed over the years with the supervision of Hojjat al-Islam Dr. Hadi Sadeghi, the head of the Theoretical Ethics Group. Some of these articles were previously presented in conferences or published in scholarly journals, with minor modifications, and their references are provided at the beginning of each article.

The book is organized into seven essays as follows:

  1. Wilāyah-based Ethics: Virtue Ethics grounded in Shi‘i Teachings

  2. Past and Contemporary Virtue Ethics: Ancient Greece and Pincafs

  3. Historical Study of the Divine Command Theory and God’s Roles in Western Moral Philosophy

  4. Rational Investigation of Ethical Egoism

  5. Altruism and Psychological Evidence in Moral Psychology

  6. Ethics of Love: An Islamic Perspective on the Role of Love in Ethics

  7. Ethical Utilitarianism in the Light of Qur’an and Reason

Ethical Essays was authored by a group of researchers under the supervision of Hojjat al-Islam Dr. Hadi Sadeghi. It is written in Persian, in a standard trade size, spans 256 pages, and was published in 1403 (2024/2025 Gregorian) in collaboration with Dar al-Hadith Publications.
