the research institute at a glance
the tradition of the infallible (peace be upon them) is the greatest legacy left for humanity. hadith, in essence, serves as a guiding light for people and directs human thought, enriching human life with spirituality and wise conduct. after the qur’an, tradition or hadith is the second most important religious source for muslims, playing a significant role in introducing islam and the development and flourishing of islamic sciences.
the efforts of scholars and preservers of hadith in recording, translating, and explaining hadith are commendable; however, over the centuries, due to the actions of forgers who altered hadiths and inserted fabricated narrations into the collections of the infallibles (peace be upon them), and because of past limitations in collaborative work, a comprehensive and coordinated effort to organize hadiths was lacking. therefore, the need for an independent center became evident—one that could systematically classify, purify, explain, and promote hadith knowledge and conduct research on related issues.
the dar al-hadith scientific and cultural institute, to address this gap, operates as the first independent hadith research institution in the shi’a world, focusing on hadith and related studies. the institute officially began its activities on 22/08/1374 (iranian calendar), coinciding with the blessed birthday of lady fatimah zahra (peace be upon her) in the city of qom, under the guidance of the supreme leader (may god protect him) and the management of the late ayatollah mohammad mohammadi riyah-shahri (may his soul rest in peace).
one of the most significant achievements of the dar al-hadith institute was the establishment of the research center for hadith sciences and knowledge in 1374.
the publication of numerous works, receiving national scientific awards during the first decade of this research center’s establishment, and the warm reception and positive attitude of the scholarly community toward the dar al-hadith institute, led to the creation of three additional research centers that had previously operated as groups and units within the hadith sciences and knowledge research center. these three research centers are:
-
research center for tafsir of ahl al-bayt (peace be upon them),
-
research center for kalam of ahl al-bayt (peace be upon them),
-
research center for islamic ethics and psychology.
these research centers aim to generate knowledge in islamic sciences based on the two invaluable legacies of the prophet (peace be upon him and his family): the qur’an and the ahl al-bayt. the publication of numerous qur’anic and hadith works and the training of prominent researchers and scholars in this field testify to this mission.
following the establishment of these four research centers, the qur’an and hadith research institute was officially founded. its official license was approved in the meeting of 08/04/1392 by the council for the expansion of higher education, ministry of science, research, and technology, and it was officially inaugurated on 14/05/1392, coinciding with 27 ramadan 1434.
the following sections provide an introduction to the research institute and its research centers. the qur’an and hadith research institute, in line with achieving its goals, fulfilling its mission, and responding to the needs of its audience and the research requirements of iran and the muslim world, presents the duties, authorities, and regulations of each relevant section as follows.
